On January 19th, the election of the speaker will be held in the House of Representatives. For the election, the Parliament Secretariat is publishing the election schedule today (Tuesday). The Parliament Secretariat has informed that necessary preparations are being made for the elections.
In the meeting of the House of Representatives held on January 10, senior member Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana fixed the election of the speaker for January 19. Accordingly, the Federal Parliament Secretariat is going to publish the election schedule today for the election of the Speaker.
According to the proposed schedule, the nomination registration i.e. notice of proposal has been scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday), January 18th. Similarly, the list of candidates as well as the final list will also be published on the same day.
The speaker aspirant will have to register the nomination along with the proposer and the supporter. In the House of Representatives meeting on January 19th, there will be a program where the proposer of the candidate will make a proposal and the supporter will speak in support.
The election of the speaker is done by dividing the votes of every member. Parliamentarians sign their votes in separate lobbies, giving three options: for, against and neutral. There is a rule that the elected Speaker who has obtained the majority shall take oath before the President before taking office.
After the election of the Speaker, the House of Representatives sets the date for the election of the Deputy Speaker. The Speaker will present the proposed Speaker's candidacy for decision. In this way, when presented for decision, those registered first and those registered later are presented sequentially.
When the first candidate is presented for decision, if the majority approves, the second candidate does not have to be presented for decision. In the event that the first candidate does not get the majority, the second candidate must be presented for decision.
As the date of the Speaker's election is approaching, the parties are focusing on internal discussions to decide the Speaker's candidate. A discussion was held between the power partner party CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachand' and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli.
It seems certain that the UML will get the Speaker's post from the ruling coalition. Congress has not yet made any decision about whether or not to field a candidate for that election.
