Exercise demonstration by Nepal Army for disaster rescue

Hanuman Dhajav Gulma practice 'Monsoon Exercise-2' in Baitadi as a precautionary measure in view of natural calamities. The exercise was held at Tundikhel in Dasharathchanda Municipality-4 to convey the message of how to search and rescue during a disaster.

The joint security forces have conducted search and rescue exercises and how to prevent fires. Along with the army, Nepal Police and Armed Police personnel and Red Cross personnel conducted the exercise. The search and rescue, treatment and relief of the flood victims has been practiced. According to Khil Bahadur Rana, Gulmapati of Hanuman Dhwaj Gulm, the program is aimed at implementing the plan made for monsoon pre-preparation and district disaster response. Demonstrations were shown on how the Nepal Army works in rescue and response during landslides and fires. In addition, demonstrations have been held on how to be safe during disasters and how to inform the concerned bodies.

Fighter Rana said that the exercise was done to reduce the loss of property. Exercises will help in immediate rescue and relief to the affected people considering the damage caused by natural calamities like floods and landslides during the rainy season. He said, "The army is in a state of readiness as disasters can strike in any situation and this will help in strengthening the civil-army relations."

Trained students of the National Service Team (NCC) also participated in the exercise. Based on the skills they have learned, they can be involved in search and rescue operations in the event of a disaster. Assistant Chief District Officer Khagendra Singh Bharti expressed confidence that the exercise would help in rescue and response during the disaster.
