The Chief District Officer (CDO) of three districts in the Terai and two hill districts of Province No. 1 have said that all security arrangements have been made for the local level election to be held on May 13 this year. The Chief District Officer, who is in charge of peace and security in the district, is playing a special role at this time.
There are 1,157 wards in 137 municipalities in Province No. 1. A total of 137 chiefs, 137 deputy chiefs, 1,157 ward chairpersons and 4,628 ward members will be elected in the state which has one metropolis and two sub-metropolises, according to the state election office in Biratnagar.
This is the second local level election held since the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal in 2015 AD. Before the start of the silence period, the political parties have conducted publicity, election rallies, door-to-door programs, meetings, rallies and corner meetings. Even though there is no campaign, the country is ready for elections at this time.
In order to make the election fearless, free, fair and free from rigging, the Chief District Officers have provided security management based on the geography, population, polling stations and polling stations of their respective districts, said the Chief District Officer.
Chief District Officer of Khotang, Phanindra Dahal, said that they have made security arrangements for the election by studying the situation in the district. In Khotang, 136 polling stations and 194 centers have been designated for one lakh 43 thousand 752 people including 75 thousand men and 68 thousand 746 women.
According to Chief District Officer Dahal, 700 Nepal Police, 232 Armed Police Force, 1,087 temporary police personnel and 1,030 personnel have been mobilized for the election. He said that 58 untested and 35 highly sensitive areas in the district have been identified and proper and strong security arrangements have been made for the election.
In Morang, 300 polling stations and 820 polling booths have been set up for three lakh 63 thousand 448 male, three lakh 51 thousand 769 female and seven lakh 15 thousand 223 voters. Chief District Officer Kashiraj Dahal informed that a total of 13,067 civil servants including 1,972 Nepal Police, 686 Armed Forces and 3,124 temporary personnel have been deployed in Morang.
He said that the security forces were mobilized in three areas, Nepal Police in the first area, Armed Police Force in the second area and Nepal Army team in the third area.
Similarly, Jhapa has three lakh 21 thousand 520 male, three lakh 24 thousand 705 female and nine other voters with a total of 6 lakh 45 thousand 234 voters, 286 polling stations and 755 polling booths. Chief District Officer Chhabi Rijal informed that 1,900 Nepal Police, 755 Armed Police Force, 2,916 temporary police personnel and 3,800 national service personnel have been deployed for the election in Jhapa.
He also said that special precautions have been taken to prevent any untoward incident in the election. In Sunsari, 166 polling stations and 581 polling booths have been fixed for two lakh 69 thousand 146 male, two lakh 75 thousand 717 female and five lakh 34 thousand 765 voters. Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav informed that 1,166 Nepal Police, 512 Armed Police, 2,068 temporary police and 2,905 personnel have been deployed for the election.
He expressed confidence that the election would be held in a cordial atmosphere. Similarly, in Udayapur, one lakh 12 thousand 885 males, one lakh 10 thousand 251 females and two lakh 23 thousand 38 people including two others will use 98 polling stations and 258 polling booths.
Chief District Officer Birendra Kumar Yadav informed that some places are sensitive and highly sensitive. He said that all security arrangements have been made for the election. One thousand five temporary police personnel have been deployed here.
Chief District Officer of Morang, Dahal, said that all security measures have been taken in each district to make the election enthusiastic and free, fearless, fair and economical by monitoring and inspecting the polling stations and polling booths.
