Nepali Congress candidate Ghanshyam Giri has taken the lead in the Chandragiri municipality of Kathmandu. During the counting of 13 thousand 342 votes today, Congress candidate Giri has secured the lead with 6 thousand 315 votes. His nearest rival CPN-UML candidate Uttam Bahadur Raut polled 4,516 votes, informed the Election Officer Sirjana Thapaliya.
Similarly, the CPN-UML has taken the lead in the Deputy Chief. UML candidate Basanti Shrestha got 5,191 votes while coalition candidate Roshan Dani got 1,487 votes.
So far, counting of votes in five wards of Chandragiri has been completed, said Election Officer Thapaliya. According to the Election Office, Chandragiri, 1,541 votes were cast for the mayor and 4,581 votes were cast for the deputy mayor. In Chandragiri, which has 15 wards, there are 47,264 voters out of which more than 36,000 votes have been cast in this local level election, said Election Officer Thapaliya. Chandragiri is the largest municipality in the Kathmandu Valley.
