Along with the central and state government ministers, local executive officials have also been barred from participating in the election campaign of other candidates.
The code of conduct prepared by the Election Commission for the local level election that had been published in the Gazette on Thursday said the ministers of the central and state governments as well as the officials of the local executive will not be involved in campaigning for or against any party or candidate.
Self-nominated ministers or local executive officials will not be allowed to participate in the election campaign if they are candidates. But before registering the candidature, he/she has to resign from the existing post.
Although the code of conduct has been published in the Gazette, it has not been implemented yet. The Commission will decide when it will be implemented.
