Nepal and India have agreed to increase the current electricity import-export through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line by 200 MW. On Saturday in Rajasthan, India, it was agreed to increase the current import-export capacity in the meeting of the Energy Secretary-level joint directorate committee.
Currently, 600 megawatts of electricity are being imported and exported from the 400-kilovolt first international transmission line. Now there is an agreement to import and export 800 MW from there, said Madhu Prasad Vetuwal, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Energy.
According to him, the joint technical team has been instructed to study exchanging electricity from the currently under-construction Dhalkebar (Nepal)-Sitamarhi (India) transmission line.
An agreement has also been reached to import and export 70 to 80 megawatts of electricity from the Tanakpur-Mahendranagar 132 KV power transmission line. Also, the officials of Nepal and India have agreed to conduct a joint technical team to study possible options for exporting up to 200 megawatts of electricity.
It has also been agreed to create a necessary mechanism to export electricity from Nepal to the state of Bihar in India during the rainy season through the existing transmission line of 132 KV and below, and to enter into an intergovernmental agreement to export the electricity generated from various hydroelectric projects in Nepal to the Indian market.
It has also been agreed to sign an agreement soon to complete the construction of the Indian section under the second international new Butwal-Gorakhpur 400 KV transmission line.
