Twenty crocodiles raised at Kasara Crocodile Breeding Center in Chitwan National Park have been released into the Rapti River at Kasara today. Two males and 18 females were released into the river. 107 crocodiles in total have been released in the river this year.
Inaugurating the work of releasing crocodiles in the river, Renu Dahal, Chief of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, said that conservation was not possible by a single organization and joint efforts of all were needed. Chairman of the Chitwan National Park Intermediate Zone Management Committee Prakash Dhungana, Chief Conservation Officer of the park Haribhadra Acharya and others said that the conservation was possible due to the cooperation of all.
The program was attended by representatives of Khadgadal group, Army School, Intermediate Consumer Community Forest and others deployed for the protection of the park. This year, Minister for Forests and Environment Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav inaugurated the program by releasing 12 crocodiles in the Rapti River on November 6.
The park had set a target of releasing 100 crocodiles within this fiscal year. According to Assistant Conservation Officer Saroj Mani Poudel, 1,692 crocodiles have been released in various rivers so far. This year, 67 crocodiles have been released in Rapti river, 20 in Narayani, and 20 in Koshi.
