Independent candidate Gopal Hamal has won the post of mayor of Dhangadhi sub-metropolis.
Hamal received 26,865 votes out of a total of 63,715. His nearest rival Nripa Bahadur Od of Nepali Congress received only 14 thousand 817 votes. Ran Bahadur Chand of UML, who came third, got 9,115 votes.
In the local level election of 2017, Hamal was defeated by 2700 votes by Nepali Congress's candidate.
Similarly, UML's Kandakala Rana has won the post of deputy mayor in Dhangadhi sub-municipality.
Congress has won 11 wards while UML has won 6 wards and Maoists have won 2 wards inn Dhangadhi, which has 19 wards.
Shortly before the election, Gopal Hamal resigned from the Bibekshil Saja Party and declared himself an independent candidate.
