Minister of Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has announced to ensure entire telecommunications services to 14 districts, two each from seven provinces across the country.
At an interaction programme on service delivery and reforms of Nepal Telecom organized at Simara of Bara on Saturday, Minister Sharma said that two districts from each province would be provided with entire telecommunications related services in this fiscal year.
She, however, said that issues could emerge for lack of coordination among the government agencies in infrastructure development.
Sharma asked the line agencies to coordinate while developing the infrastructure of roads, drinking water, electricity and telecommunications.
Likewise, Minister Sharma stated that coordination is taking place with the Ministry of Forest since issues have emerged in expansion of telephone optical fiber and tower development in the forest areas and national parks.
Similarly, preparations were on to ensure internet services to all schools across the country by this fiscal year which is aimed at making education technology-driven.
Minister Sharma, who is also the government spokesperson, added that she was committed to making the East West Highway and north-south highways fully telecommunications services available.
On the occasion, former Minister and MP Kisan Shrestha, Chairman of Nepal Telecom and Officiating Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Baburam Bhandari, MP Jwala Kumari Sharma, MP Prabhu Hajara Paswan, Nirmala Devkota and others suggested that the government should bring out concrete plan of actions for accessible and quality services in the telecom sector.
