Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale has said that the Biratnagar airport will be upgraded soon.
During the monitoring and inspection of Biratnagar Airport today, Minister Ale said that the work of construction of physical infrastructure including upgrading would be done soon. He said, "Budget has been allocated for the upgrade of Biratnagar Airport. Work including physical infrastructure will be done soon."
Minister Ale informed that if the funds for the upgrade of the airport are insufficient, it will be allocated in the budget for the coming fiscal year. He said that an initiative is being taken to operate air services from Biratnagar to other areas. Minister Ale mentioned that Rs. 170 million is required for land acquisition for the construction of a regional-level airport.
He said, "It is necessary to build a regional level airport in Biratnagar." Minister Ale informed that bids have been opened for some of the structures at Biratnagar Airport which are dilapidated and need to be rebuilt.
