Himalaya Airlines is starting its first regular commercial charter flight from Gautam Budha International Airport in Bhairawa from Thursday, November 3. Vijaya Shrestha, Vice President of Himalaya Airlines informed that the airline will fly from Bhairawa Airport to Kuala Lumpur throughout the month of November.
He mentioned that the airline will continue to promote and connect Pokhara International Airport as well.
Himalaya Airlines has also arranged for a bus if any passenger has to go from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa International Airport to board a flight or if any passenger has to get off at Bhairahawa and come to Kathmandu.
Vice President Shrestha said that even though the law of Nepal states that companies with foreign investment will not be discriminated against, Himalaya Airlines will not do so. According to the laws of Nepal, such companies are given permission for self-ground handling but the government has not allowed them to operate.
He said that Himalaya Airlines should be able to do its own ground handling at Bhairahawa International Airport. He said that he has requested the government of Nepal for the facility that Himalaya Airlines should be able to handle the ground handling of other international flights in the coming days. It was informed that Nepal Civil Aviation Authority is positive about it. He mentioned that all the requirements for ground handling have been fulfilled.
Himalaya Airlines aims to bring in Chinese tourists from China to Nepal after the improvement of the Covid situation in China. For this task, Himalaya Airlines has set a target to expand its flights to 10 different places in China.
It has also planned to operate flights in Lhasa, China. Thus, Himalaya Airlines is the only foreign airline in the world to be allowed to operate flights to Lhasa. Himalaya Airlines aims to bring one million tourists from China to Nepal every year. The airline aims to expand to other destinations as well.
