Kami Rita Sherpa has set a new world record by reaching the top of Mt. Everest 26 times, opening the way for other climbers to climb Mt. Everest this season. For the past few years, he has been involved in rope fixing work before climbing Mt. Everest. This time, a team of 9 experienced climbers led by him have completed the rope fixing work up to the top of Mount Everest.
In this connection, he reached the summit of Everest for the 26th time last evening.
At 7:55 pm on May 7, 2022, a team led by Kami Rita Sherpa successfully completed the ascent from the south side of Mount Everest.
The team members were as follows:
1. Kami Rita Sherpa
2. Sona Sherpa
3. Nima Tashi Sherpa
4. Tenzing Galgen Sherpa
5. Phurba Kusang Sherpa
6. Phurba Chhiring Sherpa
7. Phurba Chhotar Sherpa
8. Lakpa Tenji Sherpa
9. Taraman Tamang
Kami Rita has been assigned the task of fixing the ropes for the past few years, which helps him add to his tally of Everest ascents. Foreigners start their summit only after the team opens the way. That is why mountaineering is now easier and less risky. The death rate of climbers is also decreasing.
However, there is little nothing one can do about the weather. Kami Rita also faced an avalanche on Everest in 2014. At that time, 17 people were killed, five of whom were his friends.
The Khumbu Ice Fall is considered to be the hardest section in the route to Everest. It is very dangerous. There is a snow pit, across which a ladder is to be set as a makeshift bridge. There are many things that can go wrong: the ladder may not be sturdy enough, one may lose their grip, or strong winds can easily knock off one’s balance.
The government should give climbers and guides some facilities. The families are always worried when their member has to go on such journeys. Some even plead for them to not go. However, it is their profession, their source of income. Kami Rita is also continuing the ascent for this reason. He informed that he would continue to climb Mt. Everest as long as his health supports him.
He has climbed Mt. Everest 26 times from 1994 to 2022. Similarly, he has climbed the world's second largest Mountain K2 and Lhotse 1 time each, Manaslu 3 times, and Cho Oyu 8 times.
A brother of Kami Rita had also climbed Mt. Everest 17 times. However, Kami Rita is not in favor of putting his son or daughter in this risky profession. He aims to educate them and get them involved in other professions.
