Yeti Airlines has added ATR 72-500 aircraft while expanding its services. This sixth plane of Yeti landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at 15:15 this afternoon.
Yeti has leased the 70-seat aircraft with Australia's Aviation company. The aircraft was brought to Nepal by Captain Oliver Jason Jeffrey via Australia, Singapore, and Thailand, said Sudarshan Bartaula, the company's spokesperson and head of air security.
Currently, the airlines have been making mountain flights to the accessible destinations of Nepal such as Kathmandu, Chandragarhi, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Simra, Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Nepalganj and have received permission to fly charter and non-scheduled flights internationally.
The first flight of the 986 series aircraft took place in 2011. The company has claimed that the aircraft, which flew only 10,000 cycles, is the latest aircraft to fly in Nepal. The total number of cycles of ATR aircraft is 70,000. One landing is counted as one cycle.
Spokesperson Bartaula informed that along with the increase in the number of aircraft, the company has taken a policy to expand the service to the destinations it currently flies to. "After completing the required paperwork process of the plane, the plane will fly before Dashain. We believe that this will help to meet the shortage of tickets during Dashain". He said that one more aircraft will be added within this financial year and then the service will be expanded to new destinations. According to the company, after the addition of aircraft, 5 aircraft will be flown as a base and one aircraft will be kept in reserve and used for maintenance and flight delays.
The ATR 72-500 represents the latest generation of turboprop aircraft. This aircraft with a capacity of 70 seats are considered to be the best aircraft with a turboprop engine. It produces less noise and vibration compared to other planes and is comfortable during the flight. The aircraft approximately emits 50% less carbon per passenger/km than newer generation jets and three times less carbon than older aircraft. Yeti Airlines is the first carbon-neutral airline in South Asia.
