As the election draws near, big hoteliers are not enthusiastic.

According to Binayak Shah, first vice-president of the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), the election does not inspire big hotels. Such a trend is seen in most of the countries in the South Asian region. According to him, there is a belief that with the election, there will be more violent incidents in the region.

Due to this reason, tourists usually do not plan to travel during the election. He says that it can be seen in both internal and external tourists. According to him, foreign tourists do not plan to visit Nepal as much as possible around the election date.

"Elections do not inspire big hotels," Shah said. "Foreigners believe that elections will not be peaceful in a country like ours."

The day of local level election scheduled for May 13 is Friday. This day is usually the day many Nepalis plan to go for a night or two outside the city for a small retreat or break.

However he acknowledged that the numbers would most probably drop this time.
