Although the government has decided to lift the import ban, it has been reported that the import ban remains in place due to the bad coordination.
The government extended the ban on four types of goods until the end of November. However, even though the Council of Ministers has decided not to extend the ban, the notification has not been published in the Gazette.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has not issued a notice to the banks to open ban for the import of those goods. Because of this, most of the banks have not agreed to open LCs for the import of expensive cars, mobiles, motorcycles, and foreign liquor.
NRB sources have also said that the Ministry of Commerce has not opened the LC of banned items due to the fact that there was no notification in the gazette about the opening of imports.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply has claimed that there is no need to issue a notice in the gazette because the government has set a date and banned it. Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, spokesperson of the ministry, said that the import has been opened.
