Police in Bhaktapur district arrested six persons involved in stealing scooters and motorcycles and also for buying such vehicles from Bhaktapur on Saturday.
The arrested have been identified as Arjun Tamang alias 'Suman' (28), a local resident of Thakre Rural Municipality in Dhading district; Bijay Hyangju alias 'Baidhya' (19), a local resident of Dattaraya in Bhaktapur Municipality-2; Dinesh Tamang Waiba (29), a resident of Sailung Rural Municipality-2 in Dolakha district; and Ramesh Koju alias 'Sain' (20), a local resident of Liwali in Bhaktapur Municipality-8 for stealing the two-wheelers. Those buying such stolen vehicles have been identified as Abinash Tamang (23), a local resident of Namobuddha Municipality-4 in Kavre district, and Aakash Magar (22), a resident of Lamahi in Dang district.
The accused allegedly stole a motorcycle with vehicle registration number BHE 7 PA 4413 belonging to Laxman Bahadur BK, a resident of Kamal Binayak in Bhaktapur Municipality-10. They also stole a scooter with vehicle registration number BA 36 PA 1588 belonging to Rabindra Nepal, a resident of Kirtipur Municipality-15. Both the motorcycle and scooter were stolen on June 13.
The accused had also changed the original vehicle registration number of the motorcycle to BA 71 PA 4703, informed the police. During a search operation, security personnel deployed from Jagati-based Metropolitan Police Circle (MPC) nabbed them and also recovered the motorcycle and scooter from their possession.
