Hardhawa festival is being celebrated in Tharu village

It is customary to celebrate the Hardhauwa festival as a celebration of the completion of the farming work.

The festival which is celebrated to celebrate the completion of planting has started to be celebrated in various villages of the Hardhawa Tharu community. Man Bahadur Chowdhury of Janki Rural Municipality Ward No. 3 said that it is customary for the Tharu community to celebrate the Hardhauwa festival by killing bungurs in their villages and having fun with food.

"It is customary for the farmers to be busy in the fields throughout the month of June, to relieve the fatigue of farming, all the farmers join together to kill the fatigue by cooking meat and making sweet and savory dishes", he said, "Since all the crops in the village have been planted, today the farmers are eating together and having fun."

He said that it is customary to cook new vegetables at home and eat sweeter than other times. Hardhawa festival has been started in all Tharu villages. In some communities, the day of planting is celebrated with fun, while in some villages, everyone celebrates together on the same day.

Farmer leader Sunder Chaudhary says that since they are busy with farming for months, they do not get to eat sweets and do not meet their relatives.

In Hardhaiva, the Tharu community has a custom of eating more meat. As it is felt that energy is lost while working in agriculture, fish, meat, pakoda, flowers etc. The leader of the Tharu community, Hari Choudhary, says that the celebration of Hardhawa will be continued as it is a ritual connected with the tradition and culture of the Tharu community.

In the following days, the men of the Tharu community take care of the fields for irrigation, while the women manage their time by weaving traditional materials such as dhakia, delia, and fishing. Dhakia, made by women, is used to store food and other items. Apart from that, women tend to harvest vegetables after fishing in their spare time.
