The first hearing has started on the writ petition filed in the Supreme Court against the promotion of the 29th Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP).
A joint bench of Justice Sushmalatha Mathema heard the case today, said Devendra Dhakal, co-spokesperson of the court. Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Bishwaraj Pokharel had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on May 2 against the decision of the Council of Ministers to appoint Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh.
A writ petition filed by Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police Pokharel has demanded to overturn the government's decision to promote someone one and a half years younger than him. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on May 2 had decided to promote Singh to the post of Inspector General of Police.
