South Asian Conference is being held in Kathmandu

A two-day South Asian conference is to be held to show solidarity for ending violence by raising voice against violence against women globally.

 It was informed at a press conference held today that the conference, which will start on Monday in Kathmandu, will highlight the various aspects of violence against women and emphasize on how to bring justice to the victims of violence. Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Kamala Parajuli said that girls, adolescents, women with disabilities, sexual minorities and women from marginalized communities are more affected by violence.

She further added that the world is witnessing an increase in violence as compared to the past and the nature of the three is also changing. According to Parajuli, the main objective of the conference is to address the issue of gender-based violence against elderly mothers on earth and give access to justice to those affected by the violence.

 Lily Thapa, a member of the National Human Rights Commission, said that violence against women was a violation of human rights and that the issue of how to address and reduce such violence would be raised at the conference.

 The two-day conference, jointly organized by the National Commission for Women, the National Human Rights Commission, the Federation of Women's Non-Governmental Organizations (WNF) and 'Every Bowman' WNF Chairman Shashi Adhikar said.

 The conference, which is scheduled to be held on March 15 and 16, will be attended by 100 participants from South Asia, USA, women's rights activists, writers and human rights activists from different countries. The conference is scheduled to be inaugurated by Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun.
