KATHMANDU: The issue of ‘censorship’ in films has also been raised in the House of Representatives meeting. Speaking during the zero hour of the meeting held on Sunday, National Independent Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) MP Asim Shah urged that a person with an understanding of art be appointed to the Central Film Censorship Committee. Opposing the increasing trend of unnecessary cutting in the film before its release, MP Shah condemned the act of censoring ‘Rajaganj’ while making the film by including the scene of the Prime Minister’s speech at a public event.
Stating that cinema is a mirror of society, MP Shah opposed it saying that the government is curtailing freedom of expression when expressing society’s issues through film. He also said that he would show solidarity with the movement of censorship that the filmmakers are trying to advance. He drew attention to remove all the ‘non-censor’ members of the Censor Board who were politically appointed and appoint people who understand art.
