The song ‘Char Dewar ko kothama’ has probably been one of the go-to songs for many during this COVID era when we all were locked inside the four walls.
But would you have guessed that the song is not even about the lockdown itself?
The 19-year-old singer and songwriter, Samir Shrestha, who has achieved a lot of fandom in the Nepali music industry explains the song was written way before COVID hit us all.
The first original song that blew up and has gotten millions of views on YouTube was written when he was only in grade 8.
Shrestha says, “It was meant to be a song about a long-distance relationship. And if you had told me that this song is going to get 10k views someday I would not have believed you.
“It seemed impossible for Shrestha in the beginning. Even now it feels like a dream to me,” he adds.
While he is totally caught by surprise that he has gotten so much love for his first song, the song has gotten 1.4 million views and is still counting.
Reminiscing about his musical journey, Shrestha shared about being a big fan of music from a very young age.
“I used to listen to a lot of songs and practiced singing all the time. While I did not imagine actually be doing what I love, I started my music career by making Youtube videos of me singing cover songs,” adds Shrestha.
At first, Samir started out by recording songs using earphones on his phone as he did not have the luxury to go to a recording studio.
Shrestha talks about how he always had his earphones with him.
“My voice was not as good as it is now when I first started out. But that did not stop me from signing, and I practiced a lot,” says Shrestha.
And just like any good thing takes time, his journey from recording songs on earphones to being a nationwide internet sensation took 7 long years.
