Rato Machindranath is one of Nepal’s longest chariot festivals and one of the most extraordinary religious rituals of the Newar community in the Kathmandu valley. It is also known as Bunga Dyah Jatra in the Newari language. The festival’s preparations begin with the construction of a 60-foot tall chariot at Pulchok, on Lalitpur.
