A large number of students living in the dormitory of a school in North Namkha village of Humla have been suspected to have contracted chickenpox. The disease is suspected as the students of Mahabuddha Secondary School in Yalwang village of Ward No. 4 have symptoms similar to those of Theula.

Chief of the Health Service Office, Prem Bahadur Singh, said that the smallpox seen in one student has spread to 57 other students. He said that the symptoms of the disease in the students were similar to those of smallpox. The students have blisters all over their face, body and arms. A team of doctors has gone to the school to collect samples for treatment and examination as the symptoms on the body of the sick student may have caused smallpox.

It is said that the sick student is kept in isolation saying that it will be officially confirmed after the examination by the doctor. Upon arrival at the school, the sick students will be treated and samples will be collected. This has been reported to the World Health Organization and the Surkhet-based Disease Control Division. According to the health service office, the virus is contagious and there is a fear of it being transmitted to other people.
