Vaccination against rabies will be given free of cost at Koshi Hospital, Biratnagar from today.
Chief of the hospital, Chuman Lal Das, said that the vaccine was started today after the government demanded free immunoglobulin vaccine against rabies from the bites of dogs and other animals.
Currently, this service is available only at Sukraraj Tropical and Communicable Diseases Hospital, Teku, Kathmandu. Even if it is available in a private hospital outside the capital, the victim has to pay more fee for it. It is said that up to Rs 12,000 has to be paid outside the hospital for the vaccination.
At a meeting of the head of the regular office held at the District Administration Office, Morang today, Dr. Das said that the hospital currently has only 249 posts but due to the pressure of regular patients, there is a problem in providing accessible services to the available manpower. He said that around one thousand patients come to the hospital regularly. He said that the big problem of the hospital is how to provide services without proper manpower. He said that although the work of upgrading the first big hospital in the eastern region has started, the construction company is working at a slow pace.
