The bridge over Kamala River which connects Dhanusha and Siraha districts has caved in. The construction of the bridge that lies along the Postal Highway had already been completed and was about to be handed over.
According to Chief District Officer of Siraha, Pradeep Raj Kanel, of the 12 spans in the bridge one has caved in by one foot. The construction of the bridge which had been built with an investment of Rs 244.2 million was initially started by Pappu Construction.
Since Pappu Construction could not build the bridge on schedule the contract was handed over to Lumbini Builders. The newly appointed contractor had signed an agreement to complete the construction and hand over the bridge by June 27.
