Nepali Congress has made a victorious start in Gorkha Municipality. The Congress panel has won in Gorkha 1, where the counting of votes started at 11 pm last night. Congress ward chairman candidate Hikmat Kunwar has won by getting 492 votes.
His rival Govinda Prasad Bhattarai of the CPN (Maoist Center) polled 341 votes, according to the Election Office. The final results of the vote count are yet to be announced.
Congress chief candidate Rajan Raj Pant got 483 votes and deputy chief Masalimaya Thokar got 495 votes in ward no. 1.
Similarly, Maoists' leading candidate Krishna Rana Magar has received 386 votes. According to the results, the winning Congresswoman member candidate got 467 votes, the Dalit member got 480 votes, the male open member got 523 votes, and the women open member candidate got 514 votes.
A total of 1,212 votes were cast in ward no.1.
