Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand asserted that it was our common responsibility to make proper arrangements for security of Nepali people in coordination with all three-tier government.
Responding to the queries raised by parliamentarians in today's House of Representatives (HoR) meeting, Minister Khand reaffirmed his commitment to equip Nepal Police with technology and resources.
Minister Khand along with parliamentarians participated in the general deliberations on Nepal Police and Province Police (Operation, Supervision and Coordination) (First Amendment) Bill-2079 BS where parliamentarians had drawn the attention of the Home Minister towards making Nepal's police more resourceful and technologically advanced.
Stating that the parliamentarians had voiced their opinions, concerns and ideas on how to tackle the security challenges of the country and how to make security mechanism further effective, he recalled how the Nepal Police was working round-the-clock to protect the lives and properties of people irrespective of limited resources.
The Minister asserted that he was positive about the recommendations furnished by the parliamentarians on making Nepal's police further resourceful and technologically advanced since, he argued, that more and more security challenges were looming lately.
He said that the government was focusing on ensuring security to the people at the earliest. Minister Khand said that it was a positive suggestion coming from parliamentarians to appoint Additional Inspector of Police (AIG) as the Chief of Province Police which, he believed, would facilitate the police force in security arrangement in the Province and dialogue on border security.
Earlier, parliamentarian Nawaraj Silwal viewed that the concept of Metropolitan Police System was needed in the country which, he opined, could deliver well. According to him, politicization in the police and promotion and transfer of the police personnel at the whims and fancies had eroded the confidence of police personnel.
Similarly, Divyamani Rajbhandari informed that the State Affairs and Good-Governance Committee was being idle for lack of President in the Committee.
Likewise, Ganga Chaudhary demanded that the Province Police be empowered by giving high authority. Metmani Chaudhary, Bimala Bishwakarma, Asha Kumari BK, Min Bahadur Bishwakarma and Pradeep Yadav among others also voiced their respective opinions on security related matters in the meeting.
