A worker has been injured when a chicken coop collapsed in Mechinagar Municipality-7 last night due to heavy rain. A total of 1,800 broiler chickens of poultry farms have died.
Power supply to Mechinagar area has been disrupted due to stron winds as trees fell on electricity poles. The ripening maize crops has collapsed.
Sajan Limbu, an employee of Raunika Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Farm of Mechinagar ward no. 7 has been injured after falling into a chicken coop. According to Raju Thapa Magar, the manager of the farm, 1,300 broiler chickens died in the rain due to storm.
The three cages of the farm have been completely destroyed by the storm. Sixteen bags of chicken fodder stored in the cage have been destroyed by soaking in water. The chickens died after the tin roof and bass enclosure collapsed. He said that damage cost him to lose more than Rs. 12,00,000.
At Hari Katuwal's chicken farm in the same ward, 500 chickens have died due to the collapse of the cage. Katuwal, the manager of the farm, said that the farm had suffered a loss of Rs 5,00,000 including seven bags of grains.
The goat shed of Kamala Agricultural Farm in the same ward has also been damaged by the storm and two tunnels of Balaji Nursery have been destroyed. The farm has suffered a loss of Rs 2,00,000. According to local journalist Devendra Kharel, the inner road of the old customs house has been blocked due to the collapse of electric poles in the ward. Electricity service has also been disrupted since last night. He complained that the employees of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) had been urged to pick up the electricity wires and poles lying on the road, but nothing has been done about it.
Basanta Pathak, information officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa, said that the traffic has been opened on the East-West Highway by removing many trees that fell due to the storm.
