It is important for all to be aware of the effects of climate change: Minister Regmi

Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Uma Regmi has said that everyone should be aware of the effects of climate change in time.

He made the remarks while welcoming a group of women who returned to Kathmandu on Friday after completing a special program on climate change at the Kala Patharr of Everest at Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday.

On behalf of the government, Regmi thanked all the members of the group for sending a message to the world about the effects of climate change from the Kala Patharr region of Mount Everest.

She said that the pressure exerted by the women's group on the program with great courage and risk was commendable. Minister Regmi informed that the government is serious about the issue of climate change and has given priority to the policies and programs to control the effects of climate change.

On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, a special program was organized in Kalapathar with the support of the Ministry of Forest and Environment and various international organizations.

The women's group had also made public a 10-point declaration to draw the world's attention by holding a special program on March 7 in Kalapathar. A group of 40 distinguished women from different regions had started a 13-day trek from Kathmandu and reached Kalapathar area.

Speaking on the occasion, Pratija Karki, Chairperson of 'Sath sathai', said that a campaign has been launched to draw the attention of stakeholders, environmentalists, researchers and other stakeholders on the issue of climate change and women's justice in the Himalayas.

She stressed on the need to be aware of the fact that no one can escape from the burning problem of nature like climate change and if we do not heed the warning in time, countries at geographical risk like Nepal will suffer the most. He also pointed out the need for countries like Nepal to keep up the pressure on the world stage.

Launched under the slogan 'Women United for Climate Justice', the debate focused on the impact of climate change, especially on women's lives, and initiatives to seek justice.
