Baglung's Adarsh Communication Cooperative has been distributing annual pensions to senior share members and allowances to disabled share members.
Chairman of Adarsh Sanchar Sahakari Humakumari GC informed that the organization has distributed incentive allowance to senior share members at the rate of Rs.2,400 per year and to disabled share members at the rate of Rs.1,000 per year for five years. The cooperative has been considering media operation as its main objective.
"Cooperatives should be run according to its seven principles. We have been giving incentive allowances to members who have been members of cooperatives for more than 70 years at the rate of Rs 200 per month, Rs 2400 per year and to members with disabilities at the rate of Rs 1000 per year", said Chairman GC. The cooperative has been providing support to those affected by various calamities along with pension, disability allowance, health services and Akshaya Fund.
In the current financial year, 26 people have benefited from the senior citizen pension, which was started five years ago, and 20 disabled share members have benefited from the disability allowance.
Deepakraj Sapkota, manager of the cooperative, informed that the cooperative has provided money for health care to 40 people.
According to Sapkota, it has been arranged that the share members who have been members of Adarsh Sanchar Cooperative for the last 10 years and have reached the age of 70 will get a monthly pension at the rate of Rs.200.
The cooperative has also arranged a pension fund. New share members in the fund have to contribute Rs 100 once and all other members have to contribute Rs 3,000 to the fund once.
In the field of information and communication, the organization has been cooperating with Dhaulagiri Jagaran Daily for the past 16 years, Agrasar weekly for nine years, Adarsh Sanchar online for four years and Dhaulagiri television for 10 years.
Manager Sapkota informed that there are currently 3,300 share members in the organization and total assets of Rs 450 million including Rs 555 million share capital, Rs 300 million savings, and Rs 380 million loan investments.
By the end of next June, there will be more than 5,000 share members, share capital of Rs.80 million, savings of Rs.460 million, loan investment of Rs.510 million and total assets of Rs.560 million are targeted.
The organization has been conducting programs such as cooperative education in schools, mother's campaign against drug abuse, training in making menstrual pads at home, women's empowerment, financial literacy for youth and students, the role of communication cooperatives in tourism promotion, health education and treatment.
