Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that he will not hold any party meetings at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar. Since there had been a lot of criticism regarding party meetings being held at the prime minister’s residence, Deuba, who is also the president of Nepali Congress, stated that henceforth no more party meetings would be held in Baluwatar.
After Deuba was appointed the prime minister, Nepali Congress had held two meetings of its office-bearers in Baluwatar. Gagan Kumar Thapa, central committee member of the party, mentioned that the two meetings were held in Baluwatar as there was a sit-in protest at the party’s central office in Sanepa. He added PM Deuba has made a commitment not to hold any more party meetings at the prime minister’s official residence.
Thapa said party members had requested Deuba to refrain from holding such meetings in Baluwatar and the prime minister had agreed to the suggestion.
Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had also been criticised for holding party meetings of the CPN UML, of which he is the chairperson, in Baluwatar. In fact, civil society leaders had mentioned that the prime minister’s official residence had become like a party palace.
Civil society leaders had also urged PM Deuba to stop holding party meetings in Baluwatar.
