Polling not postponed: Election Commission

The Election Commission (EC) has stated that the local level election has not been postponed even after the sporadic incidents in some places.

According to the Commission, polling has been suspended for some time due to disputes between political parties or candidates in 29 different places of the country but it has not been postponed, said the spokesperson of the Commission, Shaligram Sharma Poudel.

He informed that 95 percent voting has taken place till 2 pm now. According to him, the shortcomings on the part of the commission were due to disputes between the political parties or candidates.

Voting has started from 7 am in 21 thousand 955 polling stations of 10 thousand 756 polling stations of 753 local level. "Polling in some districts including Dolakha, Sarlahi, Saptari, Ramechhap, Parbat, Humla and Bajura has been disrupted due to general disputes and efforts are being made to resume voting," he said.

 Voters are queuing up to cast their ballots peacefully and enthusiastically.
