The Women's Human Rights Defenders Network, Tanahu provided sanitary pads to female prisoners in Tanahun Jail on Saturday. The network provided the pads in support after hearing complaints that women prisoners were facing problems due to a lack of sanitary pads.
Network President Kalpana Pokhrel and other office-bearers handed over 150 sanitary pads to Manumaya Sunar, the janitor of women prisoners. Pokhrel shared that funds were collected from the members of the network to purchase pads for the female prisons.
The network has been working for the protection of women's human rights in the district.
The acting head of the prison, Narayan Adhikari, said that there are currently 12 female prisoners in the prison. "We were not able to pay attention to this matter because the women's prison home was just started," Adhikari said.
The women's prison had the capacity to hold 20 prisoners. After the construction of the women's prison in Tanahun, the compulsion of sending women prisoners to Kaski has come to an end.
