Nepali Congress candidate Bhoj Raj Bohara has been elected as the mayor of the Bedkot Municipality of Kanchanpur.
He defeated CPN (UML) candidate Sushila Singh by 3333 votes in the last night's counting of votes and was elected as the mayor of Bedkot. Bohara received 8,078 votes. His nearest rival, UML's Singh, polled 4,740 votes, while Ram Chandra Regmi, a candidate from the CPN (Unified Socialist) and the CPN (Maoist Center), polled 3,898 votes.
Bohara had lost the previous election to Ashok Kumar Chand of the CPN (UML) in the same municipality. Bohara, who is also a former district secretary of the Nepali Congress, has been active in politics for a long time.
Similarly, Congress' Tulasi Joshi has been elected as the deputy chief of the municipality. She received 7,254 votes. CPN (UML) 's Parvati Joshi got 5,727 votes and Maoist-Socialist Alliance candidate Hira Jaishi got 3,652 votes.
In Vedkot, the Congress has won five out of ten ward chairpersons. In the previous election, UML had won the majority of ward chairpersons including the mayor/deputy mayor.
