KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has voiced frustration over the government’s failure to meet the public’s expectations, despite a coalition between the country’s two major political forces.

Speaking at an event organized by the Intellectual Professionals Campaign Council in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Thapa said he had anticipated that the alliance would lead to meaningful constitutional reforms and a boost in development efforts. Instead, he observed, the pace of progress has been disappointingly slow.

“We believed that once the two leading parties joined forces, immediate changes—particularly in the area of governance—would follow,” Thapa said. “However, what’s happening now is a fragmented, lethargic process. The nation requires real momentum, but the government is crawling along like a tractor, while the public expects swift, ripple-like progress.”

He also took aim at the leadership for failing to act decisively, saying that even urgent issues that demanded rapid response remain unaddressed.
