Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has stated that the Election Commission aims to hold the local elections in a free, fair, and fearless environment. At a press conference held this evening, he said that necessary security arrangements have been made in all the 21,955 polling stations across the country so that the voters can cast their votes fearlessly.
He informed that three security cordons have been set up in the security system with the involvement of the Nepal Army.
Stating that all the 753 election offices across the country have been assigned to be active for the election, he said that those violating the code of conduct would be monitored and an explanation would be sought within 12 hours.
The silence period will start at 12 noon on Tuesday. Activities affecting the election are prohibited during this period. During this period, posting election-related propaganda materials on social media has also been banned.
According to the Election Commission, 205 violations of the code of conduct have been reported so far. Therefore, 53 explanations have been sought from various parties and individuals and 13 bodies have been alerted.
So far, 355 people from different parties have been elected unopposed in the local elections. Similarly, 35 independent candidates have been elected unopposed.
The Election Commission has also informed that the staff has reached all the constituencies with the necessary materials for the election.
In this election, 65 different parties are contesting. There are 145,011 candidates in the election.
The Election Commission has made arrangements to distribute voter ID cards at polling stations on Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as provide education to voters about voting.
