Basant Kumar Shrestha of the Nepali Congress has won the local level election as the chief of Baglung Municipality. Shrestha defeated the incumbent Mayor Janak Raj Poudel by a wide margin of 5,821 votes.
According to the final results, Shrestha got 14,678 votes. His nearest rival Janak Raj Poudel of the CPN-UML got 8,821 votes. In the last local election, he was defeated by 2,300 votes along with Shrestha Poudel.
Raju Khadka of the CPN (Maoist Center) won the by-poll with 12,427 votes. His nearest rival Sanjay Khadka of RPP got 8,064 votes. The coalition won in 11 of the 14 wards of Baglung. Wards No. 1, 3, 8, 9, 11, 13, and 14 were elected by the Congress, Ward No. 2 and 10 by the CPN (Unified Socialist), Ward No. 4 by the Maoist Center, and Ward No. 12 by an independent candidate. Wards No. 5, 6, and 7 have been elected by UML.
