Musa Masala Climbing Competition for Beginners

Wongchhu Peak Promotion, a leading government recognized trekking and mountaineering agency in Nepal organized "Musa Masala Climbing Competition for Beginners”. The competition was sponsored by Musa Masala, an American non-profit organization that aims to enhance the outdoor experience of people of Nepal and tourist alike. And the co-sponsors were Scarpa, Beal, Nirvana, Camp, Hotel Mulberry, Nepali Ghar and Crimpanzee Adventure Hub.

Oraganized under three different categories, the event had an inclusion of total 58 participants of which 29 male & 16 female participated above 15 category and 9 juniors participated U-15 category which was all cheered and supported by active enthusiast audiences. The event took place from 10:00 am-7:00 pm at Crimpanzee Adventure Hub, Bouddha, Kathmandu.

Lakpa Chirring Sherpa, the winner of U-15 category, was awarded with a jacket, notebook, pen and a buff followed by second, Mingmar Tenzing Sherpa who was awarded with a climbing chalk & chalk bag, notebook, pen , buff and the third position winner, Dawa Geljen Sherpa got a BPA- free water bottle, notebook, pen and a buff .

With this, the above 15 category first position winners from male & female category Karma Karan Gurung & Premi Tamang were awarded with Scarpa climbing shoes, notebook, pen and a buff with 1 year climbing membership at Crimpanzee Adventure Hub each. Likewise, the second position winners Aryan Hamal & Chippa Lhomi were also awarded with a harness, notebook, pen, buff with 6 month membership each and the third position winners Tenzi Sherpa & Santoshi Magar were awarded with climbing chalk bag, notebook, pen and a buff with 3 month membership each in Crimpanzee Adventure Hub respectively.

Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa, Chairperson of Nepal Mountaineering Association, Mr. Michael McLaughlin, founder of Musa Masala & Mrs. Lakpa Sherpa, Chairperson of Wongchhu Peak Promotion was also present there. The competition was judged by Mr. Lakpa Sherpa, past president of Nepal Mountaineering Instructors Association and Ms. Panchamaya Tamang, a national wall climbing athlete and the third position holder of Asian Youth Sport Climbing Championship, 2017. The event was highlighted with the presence of Wilderness Medical Society team, an American organization that aims to encourage, foster, support, or conduct activities to improve the scientific knowledge of the membership and general public in human health activities in a wilderness environment. The event was also attended by Solududhkunda municipality Mayor Mr. Namgyal Jangbu Sherpa. Miss Dawa Yangzum Sherpa, a mountain climber and the first woman to become an international mountain guide from Nepal along with Mingma David Sherpa the youngest person to climb all 14 eight- thousands who also held the Guinness World Record for “Fastest time to climb Everest and K2”, which he did within 61 days, were also seen attending the event.

The event was organized with the goal to encourage the individuals giving them a boost of confidence and strength and motivating them to involve themselves more into climbing & sports as they uncover their true potential with each climb. The event witnessed the true passion, zeal, enthusiasm and persistence of the participating climbers. Furthermore, with the success of this year’s Wall Climbing Competition for Beginners, Musa Masala along with Wongchhu Peak Promotion plans to organize the competition for intermediate level for next year to come too!

According to Musa Masala founder Michael McLaughlin Musa Masala our goal with the competition was to give new and beginning climbers a chance to experience what a competition is like.
