28-year-old Sagar Sunar Bishwokarma is different than others as his height measures just 3 ft. and seven inches. He used to make gold jewlery for a living but had to stop due to spinal cord problem.
Sagar, who is originally from Madi village in Kaski District is preparing to fulfill his dream of climbing Mount Everest. In the spring of this year, he had reached the height of 8,200 meters of Mount Everest. But he had to return due to unfavourable weather. However, Sagar remains determined and is planning to climb Mount Everest in the spring, next year. Along with physical training he is also practicing wall climbing .
In October 2021, after climbing the 5925-meter high Ramdung mountain in Rolwaling area of Dolakha District, his ambition to reach Everest increased. Despite his physical condition, the obligation to raise all the expenses for the climb fell on his shoulders.
As the 1.1 million rupees collected from Madi village municipality and various donors was not enough for the climb, he had to raise about 6.6 million rupees himself.
Nepalese climbers also have to submit a fee to the government to climb the mountains in Nepal. Sagar too had to arrange 75 thousand rupees for climbing Mount Everest and a separate 5 thousand US dollars for garbage. He expressed his sorrow for not getting help from the government or any agency.
At present, he is trying to raise necessary resources for next year's climb. He aims to become an exemplary person in the society by becoming the first Nepali climber of small stature to climb Mount Everest.
