Thamel to be an excellent tourist spot in 2 years

Bhaweswor Sharma, the newly elected president of Thamel Tourism Promotion Council said that he is committed to making Thamel, Nepal's major tourist area, as well-equipped as any other tourist destination in the world within 2 years.

In an interview with NepalNews, he informed that the council will arrange the necessary infrastructure to bring more tourists to Thamel by making it more dignified. He informed that Thamel will be developed as a mandatory destination for tourists while uplifting the local customs and culture within Thamel.


According to him, a reception gate will be constructed at every gate entering Thamel.

About 80 percent of the tourists who come to Nepal from different countries come to Thamel. The number of Nepalis coming to Thamel has been increasing for some time now.

A few weeks ago, the government of Nepal announced that Thamel would operate 24 hours a day from now. However it has not come into practice, Chairman Sharma informed. He clarified that the police chief will now be requested to deploy 50 policemen in civil dress to maintain peace and security in Thamel.


He informed that for the security of the Thamel area, CC cameras will be installed at various places and initiatives will be taken to improve traffic management within Thamel.

Meanwhile, a team will be mobilized immediately to study the parking lots around Thamel. Likewise, the management of wires and hoarding boards have been targeted.


This is the fourth time that the newly elected President Sharma has been able to work in the Thamel Tourism Promotion Council. After becoming a member, general secretary, and vice president, he has finally become the president. He is a hotelier from Thamel. Thamel Tourism Promotion Council currently has more than 1800 members.
