Deputy Speaker of Gandaki State Assembly Veena Kumari Thapa has assumed office. Thapa, who took the oath of office and secrecy from Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital on Monday, assumed office today.
Deputy Speaker Thapa was welcomed to the office by State Assembly Secretary Hariraj Pokharel and other staff members. Earlier on Monday, he was elected to the post of Deputy Speaker.
32 members of the state assembly voted in favor of Thapa. He became a candidate from CPN (UML). Another candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker, Parvati Tamang of Nepali Congress, got 26 votes.
Among the total 60 members of the state assembly, Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital remained neutral. A member of the state assembly of the Congress was absent from the voting. Thapa was elected as a provincial assembly member from Baglung proportionally.
