Out of 97 wards in Syangja, three wards have been won by women candidates.
The women candidates have won for the post of chairperson of Kaligandaki-2, Biruwa village municipality-3 and ward no.6 of Chapakot Municipality. Khagisara Ale of Nepali Congress has emerged victorious in village municipality-2 of Kaligand. Ale, who won the ward in an alliance between the Congress and the Janamukti Party, polled a total of 1,333 votes. His rival Shri Ram Pandey of the CPN-UML polled 431 votes. A total of 1,890 votes were cast in the ward, said Election Officer Ram Prasad Adhikari.
Similarly, Man Kumari Thapa of UCPN (Maoist) has been elected as the chairperson of Biruwa Village Municipality-3. Thapa was elected with a total of 495 votes while her UML rival Sant Bahadur Ale got 418 votes.
In Chapakot Municipality-6, Congress' Tara Devi Pokhrel was elected by a margin of 21 votes. Pokhrel polled 436 votes while her rival Gyaneshwar Bastakoti polled 415 votes. Earlier, in the local level election held in 2017 AD, a woman was elected as the chairperson of each ward of Fedikhola, Arjunchaupari and Harinas village municipalities. Deukumari Gurung won in Fedikhola-5, Jeet Kumari Chapai in Arjunchaupari-4 and Keshmaya Thapa in Harinas-7.
