Ranbadur Rai (RB) of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) has emerged victorious in the election for the post of Suryodaya Municipality Chief of Ilam.
He defeated his nearest rival Communist Party of Nepal (UML) candidate Kaziman Kagte by 1,852 votes. Kaziman polled 10,579 votes. Rai has received 12,431 votes. He was nominated by the coalition. Rai had been the head of the municipality before this.
Nepali Congress candidate Durga Kumar Baral has also won the Deputy Chief post from the alliance. He has won with 11,854 votes. His nearest rival UML candidate Durga Devi Bhattarai has garnered 9,122 votes. Bhattarai is also the outgoing city deputy chief. This municipality with 14 wards is the largest local level in the district. As soon as the results of this municipality are made public, the counting of votes of all the municipalities in the district will thus be completed.
