Ghana Shyam Giri from the Nepali Congress won a mayoral seat in Chandragiri Municipality in the May 13 local election. It is the second time he got elected to the post.
He got 15,475 votes against his closest rival CPN (UML)'s Uttam Bahadur Raut who received 14,651 votes. Similarly, the NC won majority seats for chairs at ward-1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, and 15.
After his reelection on Thursday, Giri pledged to fulfill his commitments to carrying out development activities in education, health, and infrastructure. "I will establish the Municipality as a model technology-friendly local level," he vowed.
His development roadmap as pledged to voters during the election focused on establishing good governance and making the Municipality information friendly, promoting and encouraging production, establishing technical educational institutions and training centers, quality health service, tourism promotion, and conservation of religion, culture, arts and guthis, among others.
