President Ram Chandra Paudel's portrait was taken to the top of Mount Everest for the first time, by female climber Yangji Sherpa. President Paudel praised the climber's courage in a program held at Rashtrapati Bhawan at Sheetal Niwas yesterday.
He said that Nepali women's role in mountain climbing is important and the role played by climbers is important for the honor of the nation.
Mountaineer Yangji Sherpa handed over President Paudel's photo on the occasion saying that She was happy to take President Paudel's photo to the peak without his knowledge.
Yangji of Sankhuwasabha Makalu rural municipality decided to take the picture of the new president to the peak of Mount Everest before Paudel became the president. She has successfully climbed Mount Everest once without climbing any other small peaks.
Director of Pioneer Adventure Trek and record-holder climber Mingma Dorchi Sherpa said that the number of women who climb the mountain from his company is significant and they also climb the mountain due to adverse weather conditions.
In the program, Sankhuwa Sabha MP Deepak Khadka said that the role of Nepali women in mountain climbing is important.
