BIRGUNJ: The District Administration Office in Parsa has extended the curfew imposed on Saturday until 12 noon on Sunday, following heightened tensions during Hanuman Janmotsav.
The curfew was initially enforced from 6:30 PM on Saturday to midnight after communal unrest escalated between Hindu and Muslim communities in Chhapakaiyya, Birgunj.
Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal said the curfew was necessary to maintain peace, security, and public order during the festival period.
The order, issued under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, prohibits all public movement, gatherings, processions, demonstrations, meetings, and sit-ins within specified areas of Birgunj Metropolitan City.
The curfew was imposed after a clash erupted between two local groups during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Saturday.
