Members of the National Assembly have demanded the removal of the time limit provided in the rape law. Speaking at a special session of the House today, Dr. Bimala Rai Poudyal demanded that the law on rape should be amended as soon as possible or else a strict new law on rape should be introduced.
CPN (Unified Socialist) MP Uday Bahadur Bohara expressed that the problems of the lower castes should be addressed in the policies, programs and budget and that education, health and employment should be given priority.
CPN (Maoist Center) MP Hariram Chaudhary said that the cases filed against the Tharu community during various agitations should be withdrawn. He also accused the state of discriminating against the Tharu community. He said, "The state is responsible for such instances. The state should address the issue of Tharu community in time." He questioned how long the people would continue to suffer from irregularities, corruption and high prices.
CPN (UML) MP Sumitra VC complained that the coalition government had not given place to women candidates in the local level elections.
