National Assembly draws attention on current issues

Members of the National Assembly have drawn the attention of the House and the government on current issues of the country. During today's special meeting, Krishna Prasad Poudel of the Nepali Congress thanked the Congress-led government for holding the recent local elections.

Bhairav ​​Sundar Shrestha of the CPN (UML) accused the government of forcing the people to pay high prices for petroleum products by repeatedly increasing the price of petroleum products over a period of seven months.

Speaking on the occasion, Maya Prasad Sharma of the CPN (Maoist Center) said that the general public was suffering due to high prices.

He said that the perpetrators should be brought to justice even if there is a problem of legal deadline to investigate the incidents of rape in the past. Jayanti Devi Rai of the CPN (Unified Socialist Party) said that the incidents of violence against women and rape were increasing day by day and demanded protection of women. She demanded that the law be amended to bring rapists to justice. Pramila Kumari of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal stressed that rapists should be given life sentence.

Similarly, Dr. Khim Lal Devkota, an independent member of the National Assembly, stressed on the need to extend the time limit for the investigation of rape and heinous crimes. Gopal Kumar Basnet of the Nepali Congress stressed on the need for the state to adopt a clean and transparent working style.

Bhagwati Neupane of the CPN-UML pointed out the need to amend the time limit in the law on rape. Jag Prasad Sharma of the UCPN (M) Center demanded an end to price rise, inflation and corruption. Congress member Narayan Dutta Mishra said that domestic production should be encouraged.
