Petition to remove NC as main opposition party

Supreme Court

A petition filed in the Supreme Court with the demand that the Nepali Congress should not be recognized as the main opposition party is under consideration. But with the political developments, the situation has become that the Congress will come from the opposition to the ruling bench.

The Congress leaders, who started the dialogue by giving a vote of confidence to the Prime Minister, succeeded in garnering support from the ruling Maoist center for their party's candidate Ramchandra Paudel in the presidential election. On other hand, RPP left the government with the registration of Paudel's candidacy.

After Prime Minister Dahal stopped the foreign minister's visit, CPN-UML withdrew its support to the government on Monday and all the ministers of UML also submitted their resignations.

The Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) did not withdraw its support but left the government as well. However, Dahal has the majority in the parliament. Because the largest party in Parliament (89) is with the Congress along with the United Socialists (10) and Democratic Socialists (4) and Rashtriya Janamorcha (1). But the decisive power of the 8-party alliance is with Congress.

And with the UML leaving the government on Monday, the possibility of Congress leaving the government before the presidential election has increased.

But since Chairman Deuba does not want there to be a debate about who will become a minister before the presidential election, a leader says that there is a possibility that 1/2 of the ministers will go to the government. It seems certain that Deputy Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka will lead the party. Because he is in constant dialogue with the PM, himself for cooperation again, he has the support of the chairman.

Deputy Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka is aspiring for Home Ministry along with Deputy Prime Minister by leading the party.

Party spokesperson Dr. Prakasharan Mahat is an aspiring minister as well along with Joint Chief Minister Kishore Singh Rathore, leaders Pradeep Paudel, NP Saud Bir Bahadur Balayar, Mohan Basnet, Ramhari Khatiwada. Directly elected Sita Gurung is also likely to become a minister. Chief Ministers Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma are not interested in joining the government. Badri Pandey, Sanjay Gautam, Dig Bahadur Limbu, Ramnath Adhikari and other MPs from other institutions are aspirants of the minister.
