PM Dahal wants to see universities as hub of innovations

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has insisted on the need of developing universities as hub of innovations and research works.

Inaugurating the first national general convention of Nepal National University Teachers Association here today, the Prime Minister said research-based education was the demand of time.

He advised universities to focus on research to explore a suitable approach to define and understand some of the global principles and philosophies as per the domestic soil.

Terming educated unemployment as one of the major problems of the nation, the Prime Minister said University teachers were expected to develop higher education curriculum capable of producing such graduates who could contribute to employment creation and explore self-employment, becoming a backup for a journey towards prosperity. "

He was of the opinion that the development and implementation of curriculum based on information technology would support to produce workforce suitable to the need of the time.

"We have witnessed that the IT development has led to the development of artificial intelligence which is capable of replacing human resources from various sectors. Now Universities' programmes should utilise the IT at the highest level," the Prime Minister suggested.

The head of the government took a time to say that the economic sector has been marred by institutional corruption, adding the government is committed to promoting good governance with the prevention of corruption. He advised universities to be a model for good governance and integrity.

He was of the view of addressing the overall issues in the education sector through the formation of a high-level education commission.

The Prime Minister utilised the forum to say that the government policies and programmes got endorsed amidst challenges and the government wanted the budget to come in line with the policies and programmes.

He informed the gathering that he would be embarking on India visit beginning on May 31 and said the promotion of the national interest would be his priority during the visit.

Efforts to revive the bilateral Transit and Transport Agreement which stands suspended till 2019, a breakthrough in adding the aviation routes between the two countries, launching of Pancheshwor Multi-Purpose Project and to address the prolonged border disputes are the priorities of the visit, according to the Prime Minister who pledged not to enter into any agreement capable of hurting the national interests during the visit.

CPN (Maoist Centre) general secretary Dev Gurung and other party leaders were also present on the occasion.
